Phillipine embassy urge Filipino Muslims in Malaysia to give full support to President Duterte
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 6 — The Philippine embassy has urged Filipino Muslims in Malaysia to support and rally behind the administration of President Rodrigo R. Duterte, notably the peace process and socio-economic development initiatives for Mindanao.
Philippine envoy to Malaysia J. Eduardo Malaya made the call at a Hari Raya Aidilfitri reception hosted by the embassy and the Union of Filipino Muslims in Malaysia recently.
The event’s guest-of-honour was Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) chairman Datuk Seri Azman Ujang.
“The new administration under President Rodrigo Duterte has prioritised the development of Mindanao and the promotion of the welfare of Muslims, lumad indigenous people and Christians there.
“A true son of Mindanao, he knows fully well the needs of the region and has reached out to all sectors of the Mindanao community,” said Malaya, whose remarks were made available to the media in a statement and via Facebook.
The statement said a 10-member Philippine government (GPH) and Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) Implementing Team would meet in Kuala Lumpur on Aug 13 and 14 to begin work on the implementation of the Bangsamoro peace roadmap.
The GPH delegation will be headed by Secretary (Minister) Jesus Dureza of the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process.
For his part, Azman noted the strong links between the Philippines and Malaysia, and was hopeful that with the new administration they would grow stronger.
“I hope that there will be more opportunities for partnership between our two countries, especially that President Duterte is from Mindanao, and would surely look into concerns there, including those of Muslim Filipinos,” he said.
During the event, a new set of Union of Filipino Muslims in Malaysia office-bearers took their oath-of-office before Ambassador Malaya. — Bernama
