EVEN AS NAJIB PREPARES TO PLUNDER ANOTHER US$3.5BIL FROM MALAYSIA, HADI SAYS PAS WON’T INTERFERE
PAS has its own approach to deal with corruption in the government, said party president Abdul Hadi Awang today.
“PAS remains committed to fighting for Malaysia to be free of corruption and a transparent administration as we have shown all this while.
“For decades, PAS has fought the misappropriation of resources and funds in BMF, forex scandal, PKFZ, Maminco, Perwaja Steel, 1MDB and others in our own way,” Hadi said at the party’s 63rd muktamar.
However, he did not elaborate on the matter in his presidential speech at the party’s general meeting, held in Alor Setar, Kedah.
PAS has been accused by critics of not being critical enough of the 1MDB scandal, while also being accused of being involved in corruption itself.
PKR vice president Rafizi Ramli has claimed that ex-PAS deputy president Nasharudin Mat Isa had received funds from former 1MDB subsidiary SRC International.
Whistle-blower site Sarawak Report meanwhile, has claimed that Hadi had received RM90 million from Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.
PAS has said that the allegations against Nasharudin have nothing to do with the party, while Hadi has sued Sarawak Report editor Clare Rewcastle-Brown for defamation.
TO DEFEND NAJIB’S POSITION AS PM?
Meanwhile, earlier in his speech, Hadi outlined the types of leadership that Islam rejects due to the idolising of others, besides God.
Among others, he said Islam rejects dictatorships, fake democracy that idolises the masses, theocracy which idolises religious leaders, as well as those who idolise wealth and use it with abandon, be it through liberal capitalism, communism, or socialism.
Hadi also said that it was not enough to simply replace a leader as their faith, morals, and principles must also be replaced.
In facing the 14th general election, the PAS president said the party must stand by its Islamic principles, and not be swayed by modern politics.
“There are Muslims that are too excited (with politics) until they do not realise that they have become pawns in a chess game of those who have a bad agenda against Muslims, at a time when Muslims want to make religion a way of life,” Hadi said.
He also described political parties that oppose Islam as the biggest threat to religious freedom in the country.
He stressed that PAS has never been the enemy of any race, and that it is only opposed to “chauvinism” among certain parties.
