‘HADI CLONE’ NASRUDIN TANTAWI FAILS TO WIN VEEP POST IN CLEAR SIGN PAS MEMBERS STILL DEEPLY SPLIT

Former PAS information chief Nasrudin Hassan will not “run away” from the Islamist party despite being defeated in his bid for vice-presidency in the muktamar.

“I was not chosen to bear this great burden (of vice-presidency) and I will continue to commit wholly to the Islamic fight by PAS, nor will I ever follow the footsteps of the G18 who ran away from PAS after defeat,” Nasrudin said in a statement shortly after it was announced today that the three incumbent vice-presidents managed to retain their seats.

G18 is referring to the group of former progressive PAS leaders who were wiped out in the 2015 muktamar and left to form splinter group Parti Amanah Negara.

Nasrudin said his loss has not caused his loyalty to PAS to falter, and that he will continue to support the party leadership in their fight to defend Islam even as an ordinary party member.

“However many who left PAS, it has not made PAS weaker, instead (the party) is stronger, calmer and steadier,” he said.

It was announced earlier today that Nasrudin had failed to secure the party’s vice-presidency.

He trailed far behind the three incumbents, Idris Ahmad who got 1,062 votes, Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah (950 votes) and Iskandar Abdul Samad (703 votes).

Nasrudin only managed to gather 478 votes.

Nik Abduh bounces back

Nasrudin went into the contest with an impressive resume. He is a relatively young religious scholar and preacher who once led the PAS Youth wing.

Had he won, all three vice-presidents would have been religious scholars. Iskandar, now a member of the Selangor cabinet, is a trained architect.

Meanwhile, Nik Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz topped the PAS central working committee election. This was a recovery of sorts for Nik Abduh, after failing to win a position at the Pengkalan Chepa PAS division election.

Nik Abduh received 1,005 votes followed by Kelantan PAS deputy commissioner Mohd Fadzli Hassan, who received 1,001 votes.

The full list of 18 PAS central committee members for the 2017-2019 term follows:
1. Nik Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz (1,005)
2. Mohd Fadzli Bin Hassan (1,001)
3. Riduan Mohd Noor (970)
4. Mohd Nassuruddin Daud (970)
5. Mohd Khairuddin Aman Razali (932)
6. Najihatussolehah Ahmad (887)
7. Mohd Zuhdi Marzuki (878)
8. Halimah Ali (872)
9. Sallehen Mukhyi (848)
10. Ahmad Fakhruddin Sheikh Fakhrurazi (797)
11. Rosni Adam (752)
12. Razman Zakaria (730)
13. Azman Ibrahim (730)
14. Mokhtar Senik (724)
15. Kamaruzzaman Mohamad (715)
16. Abdullah Hussin (666)
17. Misbahul Munir Masduki (639)
18. Muhtar Suhaili (618)

Apart from the 18, the PAS president has the option to co-opt six more central committee members.

Meanwhile, PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang’s son-in-law Zaharuddin Muhammad garnered only 583 votes today.

Abdul Hadi and Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man won the party’s top two positions uncontested.
