Khalid Ibrahim to predecessors: Work with me

Former Selangor MB says there is no need for Umno to woo him, adding that he would sit and discuss with them matters that will benefit the people of Selangor.

khalid-selangor SHAH ALAM: Former Selangor menteri besar Khalid Ibrahim has invited three of his predecessors to work with him instead of trying to court him to join Umno in its efforts to regain the state.

In dispelling rumours that he would be joining Umno or PAS, the former PKR leader said he just wants to work for the benefit of the people of Selangor and is willing to have former state MBs Mohamad Khir Toyo, Abu Hassan Omar and Muhammad Muhammad Taib alongside him.

“These rumours are normal. No, I am not joining any political party. I will stand with any party that fights for the people.

“What I say is more important, not where I stand. If Umno wants to discuss ways of developing Selangor, or if they support me in the water restructuring exercise in Selangor, then yes we can work together.

“The important issue here is not to be politicking for the sake of politicking, but doing things for the well-being of the people,” he said in a press conference after attending a PAS fundraising event here today.

Khalid was commenting on Selangor Barisan Nasional’s plans to rope in four former Selangor MBs, including Khalid, to recapture the state in the next general election (GE14).

Abu Hassan, who was Selangor MB from 1997 to 2000, had reportedly said that Khalid was willing to help BN.

When asked on whether there would be any conflict with PAS should he work with the three former MBs, Khalid replied in the negative.

Khalid assured PAS that he would still help them in GE14.

“PAS should not be afraid. There is no need to question. What we should question is how we want to educate the leadership in Islamic principles, back to the glory days of Islam,” he said.

Khalid had been removed from his position as MB in 2014, in what has become famously known as the Kajang Move.

He is now considered a BN-friendly independent in the Selangor state assembly and the Dewan Rakyat, being Port Klang assemblyman and Bandar Tun Razak MP, respectively.

Khalid also reiterated that he would not be defending his state and parliamentary seats in GE14.
