Anina vows to fight on after court dismisses appeal
PETALING JAYA: Former Wanita Umno member Anina Saadudin has welcomed the Court of Appeal’s dismissal of her appeal over her expulsion from the party, saying her fight would go on.
“I gladly accept today’s decision. What seems like a defeat is actually a victory since we brought the case to the Court of Appeal.
“The judges have clearly stated that I have no legal impediment to initiate new action to challenge provisions under Section 18 of the Societies Act which prohibit political parties from being taken to court,” she told FMT, vowing that her fight will go on.
“This chance is the most ‘sacred’ agenda in our fight. Truth will never die.”
According to news reports, the Court of Appeal dismissed Anina’s appeal on grounds that any dispute involving political parties should be resolved outside court.
The former Langkawi Wanita Umno member had named Umno Secretary-General Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor and Executive Secretary Ab Rauf Yusoh as defendants in her suit, filed on Sept 11 last year.
She had claimed that her dismissal from the party, following her criticisms of party President Najib Razak, was invalid under the Umno constitution.
This was because Tengku Adnan had allegedly distributed the sacking order to the media and the public before it was handed to her personally, she said.
Apart from criticising Najib, Anina had also filed a suit against the prime minister over the RM2.6 billion donation issue.
The High Court struck out her lawsuit on her sacking on Dec 7.
