KUCHING: State DAP has revealed its full list of candidates for the 11th state election.

Its chairman Chong Chieng Jen, who disclosed the 29 names during a press conference here today (Apr 21), said he would be defending Kota Sentosa.

The remaining eight former assemblyman and assemblywomen who would be defending their seats are Wong King Wei (Padungan), Violet Yong (Pending), Chiew Wang See (Batu Kawa), Ting Tze Fui (Meradong), Yap Hoi Liong (Dudong), David Wong (Pelawan), Chiew Chiu Sing (Tanjung Batu) and Alan Ling (Piasau).

The 16 new faces are Abdul Aziz Isa (Stakan), Sanjan Daik (Mambong), Andrew Nyabe (Kedup), Yong Siew Wei (Repok), Rinda Juliza Alexander (Pakan), Richard Lias (Ngemah), Irene Mary Chang (Bukit Assek), Chiew Sung Ngie (Bawang Assan), Frankie Bendindang (Pelagus), Paren Nyawi (Katibas), Larry Asap (Bukit Goram), Kenneth Adan Silek (Murum), Leighton Manjah (Kemena), Baba Emperan (Samalaju), Dr Ting Tiong Choon (Pujut) and Paul Raja (Mulu).

The remaining candidates were announced as Mordi Bimol (Tasik Biru), Edward Luwak (Bukit Semuja), Leon Jimat (Simanggang) and Baru Langub (Senadin).

Chong said the the original list did not include Bukit Goram but due to a last minute change, the party had decided to contest in the seat.

He added that the party was also eyeing Baleh for which the candidate would be announced “in a day or two.”

“I contacted SWP secretary general late yesterday evening and they confirmed that they would not be contesting in Bukit Goram, therefore we pulled our candidate from Baleh to Bukit Goram.

“For Bukit Goram, it’s one Larry out, another Larry in,” he said, adding that earlier negotiation agreed that SWP president Larry Sng would contest in the seat but Sng resigned from the party last night.

To a question, Chong said the party had already a potential candidate for Baleh.

Asked whether this would be the final list, he said “anything is possible in politics but as of now this is final.”

When asked how many Dayak seats DAP was confident of winning, he said: “We only contest where we are confident of winning.”

To another question, Chong said PKR was aware of DAP contesting in Bukit Goram, adding: “Bukit Goram is not within the 40 seats announced by PKR.”
