CM wants all details on who bought Perda land

GEORGE TOWN: Explain more about the company involved in developing the “cheap” Nibong Tebal land, Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng has told a Penang-based federal agency.

He called on the Penang Regional Development Authority (Perda) to reveal more about the shareholders of the company.

“Who holds interest in the land? Who is in SYT Prestige Sdn Bhd? Who is this majority shareholder and director Noorashikin Abdul Shukor?

“The question that also begs to be answered is why land which was acquired in 1986 at RM1.7 million was sold last year at RM1.42 million?”

Lim also asked if Perda had sold the land to SYT Prestige in an open tender.

Later, he showed a Penang government gazette that showed the 3.4ha land was acquired by Perda on February 27, 1986.

According to the gazette, the land had been earmarked for a “Kg Tok Keramat Housing Scheme.”

Yesterday, Lim alleged the land was sold at a loss at RM1.42 million on July 28 last year although it was valued at RM16.6 million.

Perda was established on June 1, 1983 as an agency to develop Penang under the auspices of the Prime Minister’s Department.

At a press conference today, Perda Chairman Shabudin Yahaya, who is also Tasek Gelugor MP, said the land was sold at RM1.42 million as it was prone to erosion. He said more than 100 houses built on the land earlier had to be demolished due to the problem.

It was Shabudin who alleged in Parliament recently that Lim had bought a bungalow in Penang at below the market price.

Police and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) are now investigating the bungalow purchase and also accusations that the bungalow sale was related to the sale, through an open tender, of a piece of land in Taman Manggis for a hospital and hotel project.
