Phang gives statement to police on bungalow sale
GEORGE TOWN: The previous owner of a bungalow in Jalan Pinhorn here reportedly gave a statement at the Timur Laut police headquarters today, over the sale of the house to Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng.
Businesswoman Phang Li Koon was seen arriving at the district police headquarters with two people in a Volkswagen car at 9.40am.
Yesterday, state police chief Abdul Ghafar Rajab had said Phang would give a statement to the Timur Laut police this morning to facilitate investigations into the case.
When contacted, Timur Laut Police Chief ACP Mior Faridalathrash Wahid confirmed that Phang turned up at the police headquarters.
Lim’s purchase of the bungalow at a price of RM2.8 million was mired in controversy when Tasek Gelugor Member of Parliament Shabudin Yahaya brought it up at the Dewan Rakyat sitting, alleging it was below market price.
Shabudin also urged the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission to investigate the sale of several pieces of land in Penang, which had been originally intended for the construction of houses under the Hardcore Poor Housing Project.
