Former national boxer killed in prison fight
According to the Malay Mail, prior to the incident, Ramkumar and two others had assaulted an inmate on April 8, who they accused of stealing food from a cell holding eight people, including a SEA Games silver medalist.
Ramkumar, 25, is being held in connection with a kidnapping case that took place in Klang last year.
Malay Mail quoted a police source as saying that two gangs had a fight in Ramkumar’s cell the morning after the assault and prison authorities placed the former boxer and his two cell mates under solitary confinement as punishment.
When the trio were released from solitary confinement on Saturday, a group from a rival gang entered their cell and attacked them with a sharp weapon.
“Ramkumar was stabbed several times in the back as his head was held down by one of the suspects,” the English daily reported, adding that police recovered a weapon at the scene and recorded statements from witnesses.
The police source also told the daily that the closed-circuit television camera did not capture the stabbing incident.
Meanwhile, the Malaysian Indian’s Forum alleged on their official Facebook page that Ramkumar had been stabbed a total of 19 times.
They also uploaded pictures believed to be that of Ramkumar after his post-mortem.
