Waytha: Selangor govt destroyed Reginas premises livestock

P. Waythamoorthy

KUALA LUMPUR: Hindraf Makkal Sakthi Chairman P. Waythamoorthy has expressed shock, in a statement, that the Selangor Government together with the assistance of the police, Veterinary Department and the state Land Office trespassed into a Madam Regina Mary’s land on Tuesday and destroyed the premises and her livestock.

“She had been working on her lease land for over 12 years breeding ruminant and non-ruminant livestock.”

“The government agencies were being discriminatory and must be dealt with immediately.”

Waytha recalled that Hindraf had written to Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali on November 16 last year and April 5 and 7 this year requesting urgent intervention and action on the unlawful unilateral termination of Regina’s lease which is valid until 2018.

“The office of the Menteri Besar responded on November 30 last year to indicate that they were waiting for the report from the Veterinary Department before they could arrange a meeting with Regina and related parties.”

Waytha added that he fails to see the reasoning behind the Selangor Government, on the one hand claiming that it would conduct an investigation and, on the other hand, forcefully destroying the livestock and the structure within the premises that was currently leased to Regina.

“Such impunity, offered to the police, the Land Office and the Veterinary Department, to act against the helpless Regina, was clearly oppression.”

“It’s an act of bullying, harassment, discrimination and opportunism. Regina is a law-abiding citizen. Her rights have been denied.”

Waytha reiterated that he fails to see any reasoning or logic in the harsh action by the Selangor Government apparatus against Regina. “The Menteri Besar clearly stated earlier that he would do an investigation on the unlawful unilateral termination of the lease that expires in 2018.”

Regina, continued Waytha, had complied with all procedures in addressing the issues raised by the Selangor Government. “She lodged police reports when people allegedly from the Veterinary Department encroached into her land about two weeks ago and threatened to destroy her livestock.”

Hindraf, in response, again urgently requested the Selangor Menteri Besar to intervene and called for a meeting to address Regina’s grievances, summed up Waytha.
