PKR will unite with anyone to oust Najib including Mahathir
PETALING JAYA: PKR is willing to join forces with anybody if the singular aim is to ensure Najib Razak is removed as prime minister of the country, said Tian Chua.
At a press conference, the PKR vice president said this did not mean in any way that the party would stop its fight against the policies linked to Dr Mahathir Mohamad even though some politicians from the party were cooperating with the former prime minister in the Save Malaysia campaign.
Mahatir had in 1998 sacked Anwar Ibrahim as his deputy over allegations of corruption and sodomy. This sacking led Anwar to form PKR and rise to become the country’s Opposition leader.
Despite the “conflict of interest”, Tian Chua stressed his party was sticking to its guns in fighting against an oppressive system and those who had abused their power.
The Batu lawmaker made it clear that PKR’s current nemesis was Najib, who he alleged had broken laws and abused his power. He added, “We are uniting with anybody to overthrow Najib. This is our position.”
He said this when responding to criticism by Otai Reformasi, a pro-Anwar grouping, that several PKR leaders had joined hands with Mahathir and signed the Citizens’ Declaration seeking to oust Najib.
Among the PKR leaders the group criticised were Tian Chua, PKR Deputy President Mohamed Azmin Ali and party secretary-general Rafizi Ramli.
Meanwhile former Umno leader Khairuddin Abu Hassan, who is also part of the Save Malaysia campaign, warned members of Otai Reformasi against taking Mahathir’s words out of context and giving it their own spin.
“I advise members of the group not to ramble on (melatah) as the mainstream media have put their own spin on Tun Mahathir’s statements.
“If indeed Tun Mahathir had attacked Anwar Ibrahim, of course he would not be working with the Opposition now.”
He was referring to a statement purportedly uttered by Mahathir that Anwar was not prime ministerial material on account of is old age.
