Indonesian man pleads not guilty to owning dangerous weapon
Muhamad Edy Sahputra 20, was charged with being in possession of a 18cm-long folding knife, kept in his trousers pocket, at Jalan Dewan Sultan Sulaiman, here, at 8pm, Aug 2.
He was charged under Section 6(1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958 which provides for a maximum of 10 years in jail, and whipping, if convicted.
On the second charge, the accused was alleged not to have a valid passport to enter the country according to Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 and is punishable under Section 6(3) of the same Act, which provides for a maximum fine of RM10,000 or imprisonment for up to five years, or both, and no more than six strokes of the cane, if convicted.
Judge Balqis Aini Mohd Ali set Sept 19 for mention.
