Nazri: Parti Pribumi to suffer same fate as Semangat 46, Berjasa
PUTRAJAYA, Aug 16 — No party that has Malays and Bumiputeras as members will be accepted and be durable other than Umno, said Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz.
He said history had proven this in the case of Semangat 46 and Berjasa.
Commenting on the formation of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia set up by former Umno deputy president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, Mohamed Nazri said it would suffer the same fate as Semangat 46 as its membership was limited to Malays and Bumiputeras.
“If its base comprises the Malays and Bumiputeras, it will die as other communities do not support such parties,” he told reporters after opening a convention on management of records organised by the National Archives here today.
Mohamed Nazri said PKR, another Umno splinter party, still survived as it comprised people of various races.
The Padang Rengas MP said every party that intended to oppose Umno and the Barisan Nasional in the general election actually gave BN the advantage of victory.
“Besides making it easy for BN, these parties could also be the new homes of those who want to destroy Umno... and this cleansing process is good for Umno,” he said.
Commenting on the proposed Bersih 5 rally, Mohamed Nazri said that as a lawyer, he had no issues about it as long as it adhered to the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012. — Bernama
