MAS implements self-print baggage tags for passengers
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 16 — Malaysia Airlines (MAS) today announced that it will begin implementing self-print baggage tags for all of its domestic and international flights starting from Thursday.
In a statement, the airlines said that all of its Economy Class ticket holders will need to self-print baggage tags at the check-in kiosks located around the departure area of the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) before proceeding to the baggage drop counter.
“This move is in line with Malaysia Airlines’ strategy to leverage on technology in order to simplify and reduce the time for check in, giving customers more control over their travel experience,” it said.
“This is the first phase before the airline moves to introduce self-baggage drop in Quarter 4 2016,” it added.
MAS said it will continue to introduce new systems to “modernise travelling and provide ease to passengers.”
“With the new system, the check-in process from kiosks to baggage drop counters is expected to be significantly shorter,” it said.
“Passengers who check-in via web and mobile will also need to print their baggage tags at the 50 kiosks available before proceeding to the baggage drop counter,” it added.
MAS’ Economy Class passengers are allowed to check-in a maximum of two baggages weighing 30kg in total.
The airline, which was previously struggling financially, is currently on course to breaking even by 2018 as part of a turnaround plan initiated by Putrajaya’s sovereign wealth fund Khazanah Nasional.
