‘Pass-out challenge’ banned in schools, says Mahdzir
Education Minister says action will be taken against any student playing the game, that involves applying enormous pressure to the chest.
BANGI: The “pass-out challenge”, a game which involves applying enormous pressure to the chest until the person is rendered unconscious, has been banned in all schools with immediate effect, Education Minister Mahdzir Khalid said today.
He said action would be taken against anyone playing the game in school.
Further instructions would be issued to the teachers in-charge of student affairs and hostel wardens, who would be tasked with taking action against those playing the game, he said.
He told reporters this after opening the Fifth Malindo International Counselling Seminar at the islamic education Campus of the Teachers’ Education Institute here today.
Mahdzir was commenting on a video recording of the game which had gone viral on social media a few days ago.
In another development, Mahdzir said the ministry was prepared to consider a suggestion by the Malaysian International Counselling Association (Perkama) for schools with an enrolment of less than 350 people to have counselling teachers or counsellors.
He said there were about 11,000 full-time counsellors at schools nationwide, a ratio of one counsellor for every 500 students.
“So far, they play an effective role in helping schools cope with problematic students,” he said, adding that only schools with an enrolment of more than 350 students currently had counsellors.
