AN OMEN FOR HADI: PERAK PAS CHIEF LOSES DEFAMATION SUIT, TO PAY RM200K COMPENSATION TO EX-MB NIZAR

IPOH – Perak PAS commissioner Razman Zakaria was today ordered by the Sessions Court here to pay RM200,000 to former mentri besar Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin whom he had defamed.

In her ruling, Justice D. Sunita Kaur Jessy found that Razman’s 2015 remarks accusing Nizar of supporting the DAP’s secular concept to be defamatory. The judge added that the PAS man had failed to provide evidence to support his allegations.

Nizar who is now Perak Parti Amanah Negara deputy chairman had filed the suit at the High Court here in August 2015 demanding RM3 million from Razman. The case was later transferred to the Sessions Court.

Nizar’s lawyer Asmuni Awi said his client was relieved with the decision as the defendant had persisted in his allegations through his writings.

“We always said defamation do not come cheap,” he told reporters outside the courtroom.

Razman’s counsel, Ahmad Azhar Sharin, said he would consult his client when asked if the PAS man would appeal.

“We will get further instructions from our client if he wants to pursue the matter,” Ahmad said.

Supporters for both Razman and Nizar had gathered at the courthouse earlier today.

As soon as the decision was handed down, cries of “Takbir” rang out although it was unclear which side had made the call.
