‘BLACK ROSE’ DEEPAK GIVES NAJIB & ROSMAH ANOTHER BIG ALTANTUYA SQUEEZE: CARPET DEALER GETS UNTIL NOV 6 TO FILE DEFENCE AGAINST BALA’S WIDOW – WHAT HAPPENS IF HE DOESN’T

BUSINESSMAN Deepak Jaikishan must file his defence ahead of the Kuala Lumpur High Court’s hearing of the application by Prime Minister Najib Razak, his wife Rosmah Mansor and seven others to quash a suit filed by the widow of private investigator P. Balasubramaniam, the court said today.

The carpet dealer and associate of Rosmah’s was the only one out of the nine defendants who had yet to file his defence in the suit brought by A. Santamil Selvi, who is suing them to claim injury and loss of income as a result of the family’s forced exile to India for five years.

Her lawyer, Americk Sidhu, said the court today fixed the hearing for December 7 before Judge Hue Liew Kheng in chambers.

Deepak’s lawyer, Sara Abishegam from the firm Shafee & Co, meanwhile said her client has been given until November 6 to file his defence.

“All the defendants except Deepak have filed their defence and all of them have denied Santamil’s allegations,” Americk told reporters at the courthouse this morning.

Balasubramaniam and his family fled Malaysia to live in India in 2008.

The late private investigator had worked for Abdul Razak Baginda, a political analyst and close associate of Najib’s, and was hired to monitor the movements of Mongolian interpreter Altantuya Shaaribuu before she was murdered.

Altantuya also acted as an interpreter to facilitate the purchase of two Scorpene class submarines from France when Najib was defence minister in 2002.

After her murder in 2006, Balasubramaniam made two contradictory statutory declarations (SD) in July within days of each other, the second one clearing Najib of any involvement in the murder. He said he had been under pressure to make the first SD which implicated Najib.

Balasubramaniam left Malaysia for India in a hurry a day after signing the second declaration in July 2008. He died of a heart attack on March 15, 2013 a few weeks after returning from India.

Santamil, who is in charge of Balasubramaniam’s estate and their children, said the nine defendants had caused the family’s exile from Malaysia and the loss of their normal life.

She is seeking RM840,000 in damages, including rental of an apartment in Chennai, India, her children’s school fees and the loss of income as a kindergarten teacher, and other costs.
