MyKad applicants rally at UTC demanding issuance of identification cards

MIRI: The red tape has gone on too long for some MyKad applicants as 150 people from Baram and Miri rallied to the Urban Transformation Centre (UTC) along Jalan Chia Tze Chin demanding the issuance of their MyKads.

Led by Miri MP Dr Michael Teo and former Kapar MP S Manikavasagam, the group holding signs and chanting “We want IC!” was first spotted making their rounds at around 12pm through the central police station compound before moving on to the UTC next to the police station.

It is understood that the applicants had applied and requested the issuance of their MyKads for a while now. At the Miri UTC, Teo and Manikavasagam presented the National Registration Department (JPN) with a memorandum requesting them to expedite the issuance of MyKads to the applicants.

The group dispersed at 1.15pm.
