PENRISSEN: The participation of opposition parties like PKR and DAP in the elections is normal, but voters should focus on giving victory to Barisan Nasional (BN), said BN direct candidate for the Mambong state seat, Datuk Dr Jerip Susil.

The Mambong (formerly known as Bengoh) seat incumbent said, voters in the area should continue to support BN so that the existing development could be continued for the next five years.

Jerip, who was also Sarawak Assistant Minister of Public Health before the state assembly was dissolved on April 11, said residents in Mambong now enjoyed far better facilities compared to 20 years ago.

He said at the time, there was very limited road access which mostly consisted of rocky surfaces, however, now almost all the villages were connected through paved roads.

In addition, he said almost all kampungs now received electricity supply 24-hours-a-day, as well as treated clean water supply.

“These are some of the developments that have been brought by the BN government to the people in Mambong and therefore, residents should be grateful to the government,” he said during a meet and greet session in Kampung Garung, about 40 km from Kuching yesterday.

He said he was not allowed to currently announce any project for the people, but stated that the government had a lot of development projects in store for them in the future.

Therefore, he said, it would be a loss for voters in Mambong to give their votes to the opposition candidate on polling day, May 7.

Also present at the ceremony were Samarahan District Council chairman Datuk Peter Minos, as well as community leaders.– BERNAMA
