To party or not to party?

Full-moon-partyPETALING JAYA: Much is being said at the moment on a full moon beach party supposed to take place on Pulau Perhentian Kecil off Terengganu on April 19 and 20.

The matter came to light following a police report lodged by the Besut Umno Youth and Puteri wings against the party.

In a report by Bernama, the Besut Umno Youth chief Azizul Jasmi Mohamed wanted the permit for the party to be withdrawn.

He said such parties, involving alcohol consumption, would have wild interaction between men and women, leading eventually to free sex.

A check on the event’s Facebook page found that several social media users, in March, had heard rumours of the party being cancelled.

The page’s administrator, “Erasig”, on Feb 24, in a posting, announced that the party was cancelled as the place could not accommodate more than 5,000 people and, at the time, there were already 10,000 people interested in the event.

“So yes, for those who are quick enough to book a package, there will be a private party.”

Erasig noted that they were not the event organiser but were only handling the services for transfer and accommodation to the island.

Also on Feb 24, a Facebook user had shared a screenshot of an email exchange involving the Besut District Council on the event’s page.

While the authenticity of the screenshot has yet to be verified, the email was allegedly from the head of legal, enforcement and licensing of the Besut District Council, Ahmad Burhan Sidqi A Rahim, who clarified that the council had never issued a permit or approved any entertainment parties in the district of Besut, which also includes Pulau Perhentian.

“We will deal with the organisers to ensure parties like these can be avoided,” Ahmad Burhan Sidqi had allegedly written.

Meanwhile, on March 27, Erasig responded to another Facebook user that the party would happen but privately.

“Authorities don’t (won’t) let us promote it because (the) island can’t accommodate 3k people,” Erasig had written in response to Facebook user Yuna Addara.

“Please note we are not the party organizers. We provide services for transfer and accommodation for you to get to the island safely and have a place to stay,” Erasig added.

The full moon beach party was earlier marketed as the #420 Fullmoon Beach Party in Malaysia Grand Opening.

The name was later changed to Enjoy the Fullmoon View, dropping the use of the number 420.

It is understood that 420 is slang to note Cannabis Day on April 20.
