Rafizi lodges police report against Jho Low
KUALA LUMPUR: PKR Secretary-General Rafizi Ramli today lodged a police report against controversial businessman, Low Taek Jho (Jho Low) at the Dang Wangi police station.
Speaking to reporters before lodging the report, Rafizi said it was pertaining to the management of 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB), at the time called Terengganu Investment Authority (TIA), for going against the instructions of its board and shareholders.
The Pandan MP said the board and shareholders of 1MDB had instructed the management not to proceed with the issuance of a RM5 billion bond but that the company’s then chief executive officer Shahrol Azral Ibrahim Halmi, had proceeded with it anyway.
He added that when the management was questioned by the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) as to why they went against the instructions of the board, they said it was done on the instructions of the company’s then special advisor, Jho Low.
“This was confirmed by AmBank, the bank which issued the bonds.
“From here we can see that a crime has been committed,” Rafizi said, citing the issuance of bonds despite the instructions of the board.
He added that the other criminal act he was lodging a police report on was Jho Low’s instructions to the management which resulted in the loss of RM5 billion to the company and taxpayers, as the bond was guaranteed by the government.
Rafizi pointed out that Jho Low was only a special advisor who had no authority to instruct the management.
“I am asking the police to investigate Jho Low for instructing the management and to also determine why Jho Low is so influential in the company and whether it had any link to his close ties to Prime Minister Najib Razak.”
Rafizi said he would upload the report online so that members of the public could lodge similar reports as citizens. He also urged them to upload their reports as well so that he could monitor the progress.
Rafizi, who is also PKR vice-president, said the PAC report contained enough evidence to warrant a full investigation, and even charge 10 to 12 individuals named in the PAC report.
He also hoped Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar would not take too long to call those named in the report for questioning.
Next Monday, Rafizi will lodge a report against Shahrol Azral.
This morning’s report was lodged as part of Rafizi’s new public pressure campaign against 1MDB, which he has dubbed #1MDBWanted.
He said the campaign would focus on a different individual every week, based on the findings of the PAC report on 1MDB, tabled in Parliament recently
After the PAC report was published earlier this month, PAC member Tony Pua alleged that PAC Chairman Hasan Arifin refused to call Jho Low to appear before the members for questioning.
