Nazir a ‘class act’ for taking leave of absence, says Tony
KUALA LUMPUR: CIMB Group Holdings Chairman Nazir Razak has voluntarily taken a leave of absence from today to allow an independent investigation into a USD7 million transfer issue.
This was posted on the official Instagram account of AirAsia Group Chief Executive Officer Tony Fernandes today, who described it as a “class act.”
“The action was made for the benefit of good corporate governance and transparency,” he said.
The CIMB Group held its 59th annual general meeting today and Nazir was present (at the meeting).
It was reported that the USD7 million was the sum received from his brother, Prime Minister Najib Razak, to be transferred to ruling party politicians.
At lunch break, CIMB’s share price shed one sen to RM4.87 with 4.15 million shares transacted.
