Rahman to give police ‘irrefutable proof’ on Taman Manggis

PETALING JAYA: Federal minister Abdul Rahman Dahlan will comply with police advice to cancel a planned debate with Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng and will hand over to police all the documentary proof about the controversial Taman Manggis land deal in Penang.

Abdul Rahman made the announcement in a series of postings on Twitter under his @mpkotabelud account.

He described the advice to cancel the debate as regrettable. The police and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission earlier this week said the debate, to be telecast live, would prejudice investigations into the land deal.

“Although I am utterly disappointed, but as a cabinet member, I could not possibly go against PDRM & MACC’s directive,” he said.

He said his strategic team had been working hard to compile “irrefutable proofs” to expose the Taman Manggis deal and Lim’s purchase of a double-storey bungalow for RM2.8 million, which had led to questions about links to the land deal.

“We were ready for LGE!,” he said. He would surrender “all our documentary proofs which I originally planned to show in the debate”.

He took a jab at Lim by saying that the police advice to cancel the debate in order “to avoid prejudice” would be good news for Lim. “After all, I’m not the one under investigation who might do self-incrimination,” Abdul Rahman said, adding that the police advice was “to avoid self-prejudice by a witness who hasn’t been called to be interviewed”.

Earlier today, the Inspector-General of Police, Abdul Khalid Bakar, had said that police investigations are still ongoing and “key witnesses, including the chief minister, have not been called”.

TV3 has announced it would comply with the police advice and has called off the scheduled telecast on Tuesday until a later date.
