Stop accusing Najib, says Umno Supreme Council man
PETALING JAYA: An Umno Supreme Council member has called for an end to accusations being hurled at Umno president and prime minister in connection with 1Malaysia Development Bhd.
Irmohizam Ibrahim, an aide to the prime minister, said accusations had been made previously to tarnish Najib’s reputation.
He said the accusations should stop, in the light of a statement by Saudi Arabia’s foreign minister, Adel al-Jubeir, that a RM2.6 billion deposit into Najib’s personal bank accounts in 2013 was from the Saudi government and had been given without expecting anything in return.
He said the issue should not be raised any more after the Attorney-General, Mohamad Apandi Ali, had also stated in his findings that there were no wrong-doings committed by SRC International Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary company of 1MDB.
“The Public Accounts Committee had also confirmed that the prime minister was not involved directly in the management of 1MDB’s finances,” he added.
The Saudi minister, confirming the donation, had noted that the Saudi government was aware of the issue and the investigation by the Attorney-General as well as the result of the said investigation. “Therefore, as far as we are concern, the issue is closed,” he said.
