KOTA SAMARAHAN: Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today took a jab at Lim Guan Eng’s bungalow scandal while promoting Sarawak Chief Minister Adenan Satem in the run up to the state election.

In a speech at a function here this morning, Zahid said Sarawakians were lucky to have a leader such as Adenan who placed integrity above all else.

In a swipe seen as being directed at Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, he said: “I don’t want to interfere in other state’s affairs, but integrity as was admitted by the chief minister (Adenan), is important instead of buying a house below the market price, then evade any form of confession.”

Lim faces possibile corruption investigations for purchasing a bungalow for RM2.8 million when its market value was said to be in the region of RM6 million or more.

The controversial purchase has also been linked to the 2012 sale of state land at Taman Manggis to Kuala Lumpur International Dental Centre for RM11.2 million. Barisan Nasional politicians have said the land had a market value of over RM20 million.

Turning to the state election, Zahid said Opposition members had failed to lift a finger about resolving matters concerning Sarawakians.

“Every request meant for the betterment of the state was made by Sarawak’s parliamentarians and ministers. They actually voiced the wishes of the people here, and translated them into action.

“But those representing other parties never raised any public issues. All they know is how to complain, complain, complain instead of bringing any form of progress.”

He also expressed confidence that the state BN under Adenan would offer bigger and better development projects instead of empty promises.

The deputy prime minister is among the long list of BN ministers who will be travelling around the country’s largest state to campaign for the coalition in the Sarawak election on May 7.
