LAWAS: Sarawak is giving strong emphasis to infrastructure and economic development and modernisation of Agriculture and rural economy under its Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) over the next five years.

Second Minister of Resource Planning and Environment and Minister of Industrial Development and Entrepreneurship, Trade and Investment Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said the RTP would be the main thrust of the state government’s development agenda towards fulfilling the BN pledges made in the recently concluded 11th state election.

He was officiating at a Pre-Gawai Dayak celebration in Rumah Munit at Kampung Lumut Laut, Lawas, yesterday.

Awang Tengah, who was re-elected unopposed for his seventh term, said the government would deliver according to its capacity and would not raise false hopes.

“We don’t make empty promises. We will deliver what is possible and in stages if it could not be done at once,” he said.

The minister said the government was mulling an alternative access road to Rh Munit under the RTP which would also open up new areas.

“This proposed road would be implemented by Public Works Department and relevant agencies under the RTP project, “ he said.

He said priority would be given to development in areas which supported the BN in the state election.

Former longhouse chief Atang  Engko said the longhouse residents were grateful to the BN government for its support in the longhouse construction,  car park and road, bridges and electricity supply.

“About 80 percent of what you see now is from the BN government which we are really grateful to, and we look forward to more assistance to complete our kitchens,“ he said.

Also present were Penghulu Ajan anak Renang and community leaders in Lawas district .
