JPJ blitz against ‘jaga kereta’ in KL, Shah Alam

PETALING JAYA: The Road Transport Department (JPJ) is getting tough with “jaga kereta” who fleece motorists who want to park in crowded areas after normal parking hours.

Nine “jaga kereta”, who extorted money from motorists, were nabbed in a special operation on Saturday, NST Online reported today.

It quoted RTD Enforcement Director V Valluvan as saying three of the suspects tested positive for drugs while another was a foreigner without valid travel documents.

The nine were aged between 28 and 53.

The joint operation was carried out with the police, National Anti-Drugs Agency and Immigration Department.

Eight locations in Kuala Lumpur and one in Shah Alam were the targets for this special operation.

The report identified these locations as Kampung Baru, Jalan Medan Tunku, Jalan Dewan Sultan Sulaiman 1, Jalan Ampang and Uptown Section 24 in Shah Alam.

Valluvan said these “jaga kereta” were a nuisance to motorists.

Some even had the temerity to ask for RM15 as parking fee, he said.

The suspects will be charged under Section 50 (3) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for extorting money from motorists.

Valluvan told NST Online this was the first time in history that the section was being used.

He added that RTD had identified more hotspot areas and intended to continue such operations to curb this illegal activity.
