RTD, police to ensure accident-free Gawai Dayak celebration
KUCHING: A total of 158 motorists were issued summonses for committing various offences against the Road Transport Act and the Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board (CVLB) regulations during an operation last Friday.
Road Transport Department (RTD) assistant director (Enforcement) Albert Clement said of the number, 121 were for offences under RTA, eight for infringing the CVLB regulations and another eight for drug related offencers.
He said the department in collaboration with the police was conducting road blocks in conjunction with the Gawai Dayak Festival 2016 to minimise road accidents during the festivities.
“This is a continuous effort that we do all over the state as we want to ensure the safety of road users and that their vehicles are road worthy at all times,” he said Friday night.
Albert advised motorists traveling over long distance to have enough rest especially those bringing their family and young children.
“Value other road users, yourself, your family especially the young ones and do not consume alcohol and later drive as it can influence your driving ability,” he advised.
He also advised motorists to always have a spare driver when visiting relatives or friends during the Gawai Festival.
He also warned that his officers would take action against motorists whose vehicles were heavily tinted or with number plates that do not comply with the RTD regulations.
