Body of missing vessel worker found

Rescuers return to the wharf after recovering the body in Rajang River near Ngemah.

SIBU: Rescuers have found the body of a labourer, who went missing after witnesses saw him falling into the river near Kapit Wharf around 7.30pm on Wednesday.

It is learned that Lana Gani, 31, was working on board a vessel that was berthed at the wharf.

The rescue team, which comprised members of the district Fire and Rescue Department, saw a body floating in the Ngemah section of Rajang River in Kanowit, at 8.23am yesterday.

It was later identified as Lana.

The body had been sent for post mortem, but it is believed that Lana drowned after he was swept away by the strong currents.
