DAP submits all documents on re-election to ROS, awaits decision
DAP has fulfilled its last obligation by submitting several documents to the Registrar of Societies (ROS) after the party leadership re-election on Nov 12, its organising secretary Anthony Loke said today.
"We have completed all our obligations on (matters related to) the re-election of the central executive committee (CEC). And, submitting these documents is our last responsibility.
"We hope ROS will be satisfied and restore DAP's status officially so that we can operate as usual. We hope it will not create any issues again," Loke told the media after submitting the documents to the ROS office in Putrajaya.
ROS officer SH Salmah received the documents, which included the party's 2015 financial statement, a checklist known as Form 9, minutes of the DAP's special congress and the list of office bearers of the new CEC.
Loke urged the ROS to announce its decision as soon as possible through the media, instead of delaying the matter until the coming general election.
However, he said, he does foresee any problems for the party to contest the election using its own logo.
"Under normal circumstances, there is no need for the ROS to tell us whether they have approved our election result, as every election is considered valid until ROS says otherwise," Loke added.
ROS did not recognise DAP's 2012 CEC election, which prompted the party to hold a re-election in 2013, which was ultimately also not recognised by ROS.
After the re-election was held last month, several disgruntled DAP leaders and members went to the registrar with a number of complaints, ranging from not being allowed to enter the tally centre on the re-election day, to the names of deceased members appearing on the ballot.
Loke dismissed these complains as baseless, stating that the party merely followed the instruction of ROS.
'Himpunan Rakyat'
Asked about Selangor Umno's plan to hold a rally as a show of loyalty to the state sultan, Loke said they should be free to do so.
Dubbed “Himpunan Rakyat”, the gathering is in response to former law minister and now DAP member Zaid Ibrahim's remark on a statement by the Selangor ruler, which was deemed by certain quarters as "insolent."
Zaid had, in a Twitter posting, urged Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah to exercise caution, after the ruler had said that Dr Mahathir Mohamad's anger could "burn the whole country."
Loke also stressed that Zaid made the statement in a personal capacity.
"Zaid is only a DAP member, he does not have any position in the party. His statement does not represent the party's position," he said, adding that Umno members have the freedom to say or do anything in response. -Mkini
