Harapan: Time for women to contest top Umno posts

It is time for women to contest top posts in Umno at the level of vice-president and above, and not just aim for positions in the supreme council or Wanita Umno, Pakatan Harapan women leaders have opined.
Housing and Local Government Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin said women could get Umno's act together.
"Of course they should (gun for top posts) and I urge Wanita Umno to come forward and probably it's high time that Umno women put the house in order," Zuraida, who is PKR Women chief, told Malaysiakini.
DAP vice-chairperson Teresa Kok concurred, as did Amanah Women chief Siti Mariah Mahmud.
"If Umno wants to really reform, Umno women of conscience should be in one of the highest positions in Umno, able to steer the party in the desired direction," Siti Mariah said.
Asked who could break the glass ceiling, Zuraida gave four names.
They are incumbent supreme council members Azalina Othman Said and Halimah Mohamed Sadique, as well as incumbent Wanita Umno chief Shahrizat Abdul Jalil, and former Puteri Umno chief Noraini Ahmad.
Azalina, Halimah, and Noraini all won in the 14th general election with strong majorities.
Azalina also served as an appointed Umno vice-president when she was Puteri chief.
Wanita Umno boasted over 1.39 million members in 2017, comprising 38 percent of the party’s members.
Umno elections will be held on June 30. Nominations are open until June 17. - Mkini
