MIRI: More than 100 parents and teachers of SK Anchi here took part in a ‘gotong-royong’ (work party) to clean the school compound yesterday.

Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate for Pujut Datuk Hii King Chong also joined the parents and teachers for the morning activity to prevent the school premises from being potential breeding ground for Aedes mosquitoes and other dangerous pests such as rats and snakes.

Addressing the participants, Hii reminded them of the need to ensure safety in school, besides giving focus on excellence in both academic and non-academic performances.

“The school must ensure all its surroundings are clean and safe for their students. It is because we do not want any untoward incident to happen.”

SK Anchi headmaster Abdul Aziz Taiee said such ‘gotong-royong’ would help to foster closer relationship between the parents and students.

He thanked United People’s Party (UPP) Pujut branch for conducting various activities in the school such as donating rice and school uniforms to pupils from low income families.

Also present were chairman of UPP Pujut Councillor Bruce Chai, chairman of UPP Senadin Keith Chin, chairman of resident committee (RC) for Zone 3 (Piasau and Krokop) Councillor Sardon Zainal and chairman of the school’s parents teachers association (PTA) Marzura Mohd Zain.
