Lim tells rural folk to vote for change
MARUDI: Rural voters have been urged to support the opposition in the May 7 state election if they wanted to see change in their respective areas.
In making the call, Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, who made a brief stop at Marudi town and at RumahLogandasan here yesterday, said rural folk must be “brave to change for a better Sarawak”.
“I came here today using a four-wheel-drive (4WD) vehicle. It is embarrassing the condition of the road is terrible even after 53 years of independence.
“If the BN cannot provide a better road, then they (BN) should not be talking about other things to the people,” he said when addressing about 100 people at Rumah Logandasan.
Lim added that if it was in Penang, the people there would not vote for the DAP.
He also raised the issue of no clean water supplies in a number of longhouses here.
The people in these areas still depended on rainwater for their daily endeavours.
“The former Marudi assemblyman was also Assistant Minister of Public Utilities (Water Supply), but many areas in the constituency do not have clean water supplies.”
Hence, he said, it was time for change.
“After Paul Raja (DAP’s pick in Mulu) become an elected representative, we will discuss ways to bring in water and other developments to your area,” said Lim, adding that the DAP was a party for all.
Accompanying Lim were DAP’s candidate for Piasau, Alan Ling, and Paul Raja.
