KUCHING: A former Kuching District deputy police chief Supt Entusa Imam has chosen the ‘chair’ logo as his symbol for the May 7 state election.

The 59-year-old is eyeing Balai Ringin as an independent and is expected to submit his nomination paper today (April 25) at the Pantu sub-district office in Sri Aman.

Barisan Nasional is fielding PRS incumbent Snowdan Lawan in the constituency. The seat may see a four-cornered contest with PBDS Baru Pok Ungkut, PKR Nicholas Mujah Ason and Entusa in the fray.

“The ‘chair’ symbolically reflects my wish to become an assemblyman for Balai Ringin,” he said when met here yesterday.

He said he received a positive response from people in the constituency of almost 10,000 registered voters.

“The constituents in Balai Ringin support the BN policies and the Chief Minister (Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem) but they want a change in their BN representative,” he claimed.

“If I win the election, I will work with the BN in their efforts to continue their programmes for development,” he added.

Entusa who hails from the constituency said he depended very much on the community leaders in Balai Ringin, Simunjan, and Pantu to be victorious.

He also claimed that he has the support of the 117 members of the community leaders association in the area, hoping that their support will be translated into votes for him come May 7 state polls.

He admitted that he was lagging far behind in term of election machinery compared to the BN but his spirit and struggle depended very much of the request of the constituents to see a change of representative.

On the aspect of development, Entusa said Balai Ringin is lacking in economic activities and investment that could help in creating many job opportunities. He said that if he is elected he would work closer with the relevant government agencies .

In the last state election Balai Ringin an Iban-majority seat, saw Snowdan garnering a majority of 2,885 votes in a five-cornered fight. Then his closest contender was Ibi Uding of PKR who secured 1,260 votes against Snowdan’s 4,185.
