Prime Minister visits young heart patient
KUCHING: A young Alagille Syndrome (autosomal dominant inherited disorder) heart patient, Addi Asyraaf Mohd Missbahuddin, had his dream of meeting and hugging Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak come true when Najib dropped by at his house yesterday.
The six-year-old was excitedly waiting for Najib’s arrival from as early as 2.30pm. The premier arrived an hour later.
Accompanied by his parents, Mohd Missbahuddin Mohd Nuru and Zurina Jamil both 36, Addi received a gift-wrapped toy from the premier.
“I love PM, I like PM,” he said, adding that he had been longing to meet Najib ever since he was three years old.
According to Zurina, her family was informed of PM’s visit on Wednesday, and upon hearing the news, Addi was very excited.
She added that her son was diagnosed when he was one month and 10 days old, and was told by a specialist doctor that he could only live up to six years old.
“However, our family has been praying that God will give him good health and long life.”
His father, Missbahuddin from Kampung Iboi, Sadong Jaya, works as a lorry driver.
Addi has been receiving treatment two to three times at the Sarawak General Hospital. Twice a year, he needs to go to Selayang Hospital to meet the specialist there, and the travel and accommodation cost for him and his mother is borne by the government.
The news of the visit attracted droves of pressmen from both local and national organisations, packing the small house compound to the brim with barely breathing space. They even had to take photos and videos from outside the house via the windows.
State Secretary Tan Sri Datuk Amar Morshidi Ghani and BN candidate for Pantai Damai Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi were also at the house.
Najib had arrived at Kuching International Airport at 3.15pm with his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor prior to the visit.
They were greeted at the airport by Morshidi and community leaders.
Sarawak United People’s Party president Senator Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian was also present.
Najib is here for a two-day working visit to Kuching. He was at the Boyan-Gersik-Sourabaya Waterfront for a walkabout and dinner last night and will be accompanying Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem, the BN candidate for Tanjung Datu, from the Government Resthouse in Lundu to Lundu Community Hall for the nomination day today.
