Mawan must resign from MP post before contesting in Pakan — SPDP Central Region
SIBU: The central region unit of Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party (SPDP) has called on direct Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate for Pakan to resign from his post as Saratok MP before contesting in the 11th state
election.
SPDP Central Region chairman Dato Lau Cheng Kiong viewed that Tan Sri William Mawan had yet to comply with the condition stressed by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem
during a conference held by Parti Pesaka Bumiputera
Berstau (PBB) in Kuching on March 16.
According to him, Adenan mentioned that those selected as direct BN candidates for the polls should relinquish their posts in non-BN component political parties, namely United People’s Party (UPP) and Parti Tenaga Rakyat Sarawak (Teras).
Lau, in speaking at a press conference held here yesterday, said his side had set up a special committee to monitor whether Mawan was being aided by
Teras — a party formerly led by him.
“Teras is not a BN-component party; thus he (Mawan) should not seek assistance from it — we are defiantly against him seeking help from Teras. We will closely monitor on that.
“If he needs our help in election campaigning, our side or SPDP is ready to give assistance and support. However if he won the seat, he must join SPDP,” he pointed out.
In this respect, Lau said SPDP had extended an open invitation to Mawan and members of Teras to join SPDP during the special SPDP supreme council meeting here recently.
The party’s central region has nine divisions — namely Bawang Assan, Bukit Assek, Dudong, Nangka, Pelawan, Meluan, Meradong, Pakan and Repok.
