Ringgit opens easier in early session
KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit opened easier against the US dollar this morning on lack of catalysts amid a strengthening greenback, dealers said.
The ringgit was at 3.8940/9000 against the greenback from Wednesday’s 3.8710/8780.
The local unit was mostly subdued versus other major currencies, except for the euro and the Singapore dollar.
According to a reliable source, the Singapore dollar may stabilise or depreciate against other currencies as the Monetary Authority of Singapore has set the rate of appreciation for the dollar at zero per cent today.
The local note declined against the British pound to 5.5178/5271 from 5.4972/5095, but appreciated against the euro to 4.3843/3918 from 4.3886/3980.
It also advanced against the Singapore dollar to 2.8595/8649 from 2.8704/8762 yesterday but depreciated against the Japanese yen to 3.5555/5626 from 3.5445/5523.
