Sultan happy with MB, moots setting up of Bank of Johor
PETALING JAYA: The Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar has expressed his full confidence in the abilities of Menteri Besar Khaled Nordin and the state leadership.
According to a report in Utusan Online today, Sultan Ibrahim praised Khaled for putting Johor on the map in Asia and said, “I still believe in the Menteri Besar and have confidence in the current state leadership.
“I hope there are no members of this assembly who is the enemy from within seeking to disrupt the solid political stability in Johor,” Utusan quoted the Sultan as saying when he officiated the fourth session of the first sitting of the 13th state assembly at the Sultan Ibrahim building today.
Prior to this, rumours were rife of a plot to oust Khaled from his post for having failed to unite Umno in the state.
In his royal address, Sultan Ibrahim also mooted the setting up of a state government-owned bank, named the Bank of Johor.
He said the bank could provide banking services to the people of Johor, not just for housing and development project loans, but for the purposes of savings and investments as well.
“With the state government’s reserves surpassing RM3 billion, and the state government’s revenue and state owned entities earning RM7.5 billion a year, surely they can be shareholders of this Bank of Johor.”
