MH370: Outcome of tripartite talks at ministerial level now
PUTRAJAYA: The outcome of the special tripartite talks on MH370 at the officials’ level held here for two days will be brought to the ministerial level between the three parties for a decision to be made, said Deputy Transport Minister Ab Aziz Kaprawi.
He said the ministerial talks on the Malaysia Airlines aircraft were expected to be held in Malaysia next month.
“The search is now more than 90% complete and is expected to end this month. However, it may be extended because the sea is a little choppy.
“Australia has informed us that they need a bit more time to complete the search area of 120,000 square kilometres,” he told reporters after the breaking of fast with the media here yesterday.
A special tripartite meeting on MH370 involving officials from Australia, China and Malaysia held at the Transport Ministry here will end tomorrow.
The objective of the meeting was to discuss the direction of future operations to search for MH370 and to study in detail the important issues including the discovery of aircraft fragments recently.
Malaysia is represented by the Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) Director-General Azharuddin Abdul Rahman.
The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB), which led the search, had initially expected to complete it in a 120,000-sq kilometre area by the end of this month.
MH370, which was carrying 239 passengers and crew, disappeared from the radar screen while en route to Beijing from Kuala Lumpur on March 8, 2014.
The flight of the ill-fated aircraft was reported to have ended in the southern Indian Ocean.
