MIRI: PKR Miri branch secretary and Bekenu-PKR candidate Bill Kayong, 43, has been shot and killed at a traffic light intersection in broad daylight at the Kuala Baram bypass this morning (June 21).

His pickup truck, which bears the party’s logo, was shot through the driver’s side window while he was waiting for the traffic light near E-Mart supermarket to turn green.

He was reportedly shot once in the neck and was found slumped in his seat at about 9.20am.

Bill was a vociferous advocate of social issues and had banked on NCR land issues in the last state election.

He lost in a four-cornered fight against BN direct candidate Rosey Yunus in the previous state election.

According to a press statement from State CID chief SAC Dev Kumar, the case is being classified as murder under section 302 of the Penal Code.

“We are appealing to witnesses who may have witnessed the shooting to come forward to assist the police in the investigation. The traffic light intersection is normally busy during that time of the morning and we believe many motorists may have witnessed the incident.”

He also appealed to the public to avoid making any speculation about the incident and assured that the police would leave no stone unturned in their investigations.
