Nesi Lemak-Flavored Condoms Are Coming to Malaysia

A Malaysian company is about to release another weird flavored condom to the market — a main course meal-inspired flavor that originated in Malaysia, called nasi lemak.

Karex, the industry giant which claims to be the largest condom manufacturer in the world, is planning to release a limited-edition chili nasi lemak flavored condom on the market sometime between November and December, according to AFP via Channel NewsAsia.

Nasi lemak, which usually means “fatty rice,” was originally a cheap breakfast meal that is often found in sidewalk food stalls. It soon became a common meal across the country due to its popularity, with high-end restaurants now offering this food as part of their menu.

“We Malaysians are divided across our political ideas, religion and race. I felt one thing that unites us all (is): ‘Where’s the best nasi lemak place you’ve been?'” Karex Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Goh Miah Kiat told AFP.

A nasi lemak traditionally comes with rice cooked using coconut milk served alongside anchovies, a boiled egg, sliced cucumber, roasted peanut with a side of tongue burning chili sauce.

In his interview, Goh did not shy away from admitting that this new condom flavor is one of the company’s new gimmick. However, the whole point of the new product is to promote and encourage the use of contraceptives in the Muslim-majority country.

“For me, it’s about public health, and I want to get the message across to people,” he told the publication.

Looks like condom companies are getting more adventurous with how they approach the flavor choices for their products. In August, a company based in India released an achaari-flavored condom.

“Presenting the very Indian, Tangy and Tantalizing, ACHAARI Flavoured Condoms. Get your lovemaking to go Desi and Sexy,” Manforce Condoms wrote on its Facebook post.
