PAS hails cancellation of beer festival; DAP and MCA cry foul

PAS Ulama information chief Mohd Khairuddin Aman Razali hailed the cancellation of the "Better Beer Festival 2017."
Khairuddin also blamed the failure to put a stop to previous beer festivals that led to the current one.
"Past successes led to another festival in 2017.
"Had there not been objections from the community, this festival would have also succeeded," he said in a statement today.
The Kuala Lumpur City Hall had announced that the Better Beer Festival 2017, which was to take place between Oct 6 and 7, will not be allowed to go ahead.
Organisers of the event, Mybeer (M) Sdn Bhd said they were informed by DBKL of licensing issues, as well as "political sensitivity" issues.
The festival came under the spotlight last week when PAS central committee member Riduan Mohd Nor highlighted the event and warned that it could attract reprisals from extremists.
Meanwhile, former minister Zaid Ibrahim took to Facebook, chastising those who had advocated for the cancellation of the event.
"Those who objected to this festival are from the same group. They don't want festival, entertainment or singing.
"But they are okay with two or three wives, the younger, the better," said Zaid, who is a DAP member.
Zaid also questioned MCA's role in the government on the issue.
"Can MCA do something? Hasn't MCA succeeded in turning BN into a moderate coalition?" he said.
'Cancellation doesn't gel with BN policies'
MCA religious harmony bureau chief Ti Lian Ker, in a statement, urged DBKL to be "consistent and accountable" with regard to the decision to refuse approval for the event.
"They cannot arbitrarily reject the application and threatened to take action against the organiser without giving a proper account or reasons for the rejection.
"This is more so if they have previously approved such events but have now arbitrarily and authoritatively decided otherwise now.
"Reasons must be given and sufficient time and notice should be given to the public if there are any changes of regulations or public policy etc," he said.

Ti added that DBKL cannot bow to political pressure.
DBKL must not be seen to be making decisions at their whims and fancy or cave in to political or extremist pressure.
"If the cancellation is a result of the recent demand by PAS, or DBKL is caving into their extremist views, without regard to the rights of others – the silent majority – this will not augur well with the pluralistic and moderate BN policies that our Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak had undertaken and assured the nation of last weekend.
"Furthermore, PAS must be reminded of their promise that enforcement of Muslim rights will not affect non-Muslims in this country," he said. - Mkini
