Persatuan Patriot Kebangsaan today took to task the authorities on their “double standards” when it comes to blocking sites online.

“What I find puzzling is how come Malaysia Today, which often writes articles that are accusatory, seditious, full of lies and hatred, has not been blocked by the Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC)?

“While Malaysia Chronicle, Syedoutsidethebox, Sarawak Report and several other blogs and alternative media have been blocked, why not Malaysia Today?” the veterans association president Mohd Arshad Raji asked in a press conference in Subang Jaya today.

Malaysia Today is a website run by blogger Raja Petra Kamaruddin, who is currently residing in the United Kingdom.

Raja Petra had his statement recorded by Malaysian police in the UK on Saturday after Attorney-General Mohamed Apandi Ali lodged a police report against him for purportedly defaming him with allegations of corruption.

Persatuan Patriot Kebangsaan is a newly-formed association which is currently composed of mainly retired army and police veterans.

However, it said that its membership is open to all Malaysians who love the country and consider themselves to be patriots.

Mohd Arshad stressed that they are not an army veteran association, as they are registered with the Registrar of Societies, not the Veteran Welfare Department.

Meanwhile, he revealed that the association had written an open letter to the Federal Territories Commando Veteran Association chairperson on Oct 12 to revoke the honorary commando title of Sungai Besar Umno chief Jamal Yunos.

“The reason is because his (Jamal) actions have sullied the good name of the elite commando troops.

“I have now been informed that the Federal Territories Commando Veteran Association has revoked the honorary commando title from Jamal on Oct 28 in an official ceremony,” he said.
