Pakatan in a quandary over registration status

PH chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad says coalition has yet to get any news from the RoS on whether its registration was rejected or accepted.

KUALA LUMPUR: Pakatan Harapan (PH) is in a quandary over the status of its registration, having received no word from the Registrar of Societies (RoS).

PH chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad said the coalition had not received any news from RoS on whether its application was accepted or rejected.

“We had planned to meet the minister today, but he is not here so we cannot meet him.

“That is our situation now,” he said at a press conference today, referring to Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Mahathir added that the matter had been discussed during the PH presidential council meeting.

On the proposal to be brought before Zahid, Mahathir said PH wanted to know whether its registration had been approved.

“We want to know if there are any objections, and we are ready to abide by RoS’ requests if they find our proposals are unsuitable and go against government policies.

“We are still working (on having a meeting with him), but there has been no response,” he said.

In July, the RoS told PH it would have to change its logo in order for the coalition’s registration to be approved and formalised. It said the logo was unsuitable as it did not contain PH’s full name.

“Basically, we have to use both the words ‘Pakatan’ and ‘Harapan’ in the logo.

“So, we will comply with the request. We will come up with a new logo,” Mahathir was reported as saying then.

On when PPBM would hold its annual general meeting (AGM), Mahathir, who is PPBM chairman, said it had yet to completely organise the party.

To have an AGM, he said, PPBM would first need to have meetings at the branch, and then divisional level.

“At the moment, at the branches, although there are members, they have not yet been organised into branches.

“Even some divisions have not been properly organised yet. So we cannot determine who will attend the meetings,” he said.

On whether there were enough members to organise an AGM, Mahathir said PPBM had the numbers, but that the organisation of members into branches and divisions was not yet complete. -FMT
