Sheila is out of her element, says Umno info chief

The economy is not Sheila Majid's forte and she got her facts wrong, said Umno information chief Annuar Musa.

Annuar said she felt sorry that Sheila made remarks that did not reflect reality.

"A lot of (her comments) are wrong... This is not her expertise. If she wants to talk about the high cost of living, a rubber tapper can do that too.

"So if she said this and that about the economy, it is better for me not to comment," said Annuar at the sidelines of the Umno general assembly.

Sheila landed in the national spotlight after she tweeted yesterday about runaway inflation, unemployment and the depreciation of the ringgit.

She also suggested that Malaysians are angry for having to deal with a "debt" that they had no part in creating.

At the time of writing, Sheila’s tweet has garnered 17,994 retweets and 10,554 likes.

It is likely that the popularity of the tweet was due to the ongoing Umno general assembly, in which the party will celebrate its successes ahead of the next general election.

Meanwhile, Annuar said he respected feedback from the public, and that the government would take any responses positively.

"We must respect what they say out there. We know there will be different opinions. We must pay attention to it. We are a positive government," he insisted.- Mkini
