Does Mat Sabu need Guan Eng's nod to take on Hadi, quips ex-aide

A former aide to PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang said Amanah president Mohamad Sabu should contest in the Marang parliamentary seat in the next general election.
Roslan Shahir Mohd Shahir was responding to a New Straits Times report which stated that Pakatan Harapan would field a candidate in the Terengganu seat, whose incumbent is the PAS president.
Welcoming the possible challenge from Harapan, he also pointed out that Amanah aimed to replace PAS in the national political landscape.
“If this is the case, then it is only appropriate for the president to fight the president.
“Mat Sabu (Mohamad Sabu) should challenge tuan guru (Hadi) in Marang or is he more comfortable in a Chinese-majority seat because of the assurance from DAP ?” he added in an article published in Harakah Daily.
Roslan also wondered if the Amanah president required DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng's permission to contest in the seat.
This was an obvious reference to the claim by Harapan's rivals such as Umno and PAS that DAP calls the shots in the opposition coalition despite Harapan leaders arguing otherwise.
Amanah, a PAS splinter party, was formed amid the crisis between former allies DAP and PAS in Harapan's now-defunct predecessor Pakatan Rakyat.
The NST report quoted Terengganu PKR chief Azan Ismail as saying the candidates for the Marang seat and Rhu Rendang state seat would be from Amanah. Hadi is also the assemblyperson for Rhu Rendang.
He also said that three-cornered fights in both the Malay-majority seats were unavoidable.
In the last general election, Hadi won Marang with a majority 5,124 votes against BN's Yahya Khatib Mohamad.
In another development, PAS revealed that it has registered more than 100,000 new members from 2014 to November this year.
According to the assistant secretary-general Khairul Faizi Ahmad Kamil, for 2014, PAS registered 19,764 new members, 2015 (41,431), 2016 (23, 559) and 2017 (38,949 as of November).
“Indirectly, this development shows that PAS remains relevant despite the occasional conflicts and internal crisis,” he added.- Mkini
