Turkey-Netherlands ties frozen over banned referendum rallies
Turkey has escalated a diplomatic tussle with the Netherlands by suspending relations over the banning of Turkey referendum rallies. The Netherlands refused to allow two Turkish ministers to enter the country over the weekend and several European countries barred rallies on their soil, citing security concerns. Turkey has been trying to rally the roughly 4.5 million Turks living in western Europe to vote in an upcoming referendum that would transform Turkey’s parliamentary system into a presidential one.
