'My way' Dr M has 'no way' to topple Najib, says Annuar

Dr Mahathir Mohamad has ended numerous political careers over the decades but appears unable to dislodge Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

Umno information Annuar Musa believes that he knows the reason behind Mahathir's failure to do so.

"I was having dinner with the prime minister at his home last night, just four or five of us. We discussed why Najib has not fallen despite Mahathir believing that he can topple him.

"He wanted to topple Ku Li (Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah), Musa (Hitam), Anwar Ibrahim, Pak Lah (Abdullah Ahmad Badawi)... they all fell.

"But anything he does against Najib has failed. Why?” he asked during the Umno convention on information and media at the Putra World Trade Centre in Kuala Lumpur today.

According to Annuar (photo), this is because Najib has befriended the leaders under him and considered them as comrades in the same struggle.

Mahathir, however, has accused Najib of consolidating his position by offering rewards in the form of money and positions, which the former premier termed as “dedak” (animal feed).

Meanwhile, Annuar also took a potshot at Mahathir based on what is perceived to be the 92-year-old politician's favourite song, Frank Sinatra's “My Way”

"Everything used to be ‘my way’ for Mahathir, but now it is ‘no way',” he said.

Mahathir has been on the warpath against Najib (photo) for more than two years, accusing the prime minister of siphoning public funds and leading the nation to ruin.

The former premier even quit Umno and formed Bersatu, which is now part of the Pakatan Harapan opposition pact.

Najib has denied abusing public funds for personal gain and accused Mahathir of wanting to topple him to realise his personal political agenda.

The prime minister's supporters have claimed that Mahathir is seeking to engineer the political ascension of his son Mukhriz, who is the Bersatu deputy president.- Mkini
