WHAT ABOUT THAT THING CALLED ‘SUBSIDY’ THAT YOU REMOVED? MOST DISHONEST FINANCE MINISTER NAJIB INSISTS HE HAS ‘NO POWER’ OVER FUEL PRICES
Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak wants the people to know that he does not have the power to control the weekly changes in fuel prices.
“If it goes up I have no power, if it goes down, I have no power,” he said in Kuala Lumpur this evening.
Addressing village development and safety committees from across the country, Najib urged the committees to convey this message to the people, especially those in rural areas.
“I have never heard of this before – when fuel price goes up because of global oil prices, the leader of a country is insulted.
“But when it goes down no one says anything,” he added.
Najib said even the gulf states which produce more oil than Malaysia could not determine fuel prices.
He added that all those blaming him for fuel prices were just trying to play up political sentiments.
Under Najib, the government had abolished fuel subsidies and is currently using a weekly system for fuel prices based on global prices.
Petrol prices have been rising for the past four weeks, with RON95 and RON97 currently at being sold at RM2.15 and RM2.43 respectively.
Fuel prices for the coming week will be announced tomorrow evening.
