MACC detains Johor DOSH deputy director over corruption case

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has detained the Johor Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) deputy director of operations to assist investigations into a corruption case.
The 47-year-old suspect was detained at the Johor MACC office at 11pm yesterday.
MACC said in a statement following his detention that an investigation team in Johor Bahru raided three separate locations here and found cash amounting to RM40,400 and SGD1,613. Also seized were several documents pertaining to a project.
From the investigations, according to the statement, the suspect is believed to have received a bribe of RM8,000 from a petroleum engineering company project manager.
The money was given through a DOSH officer, who was detained prior to this, as an incentive not to take action against the company which had installed a grip hoist without the permission of DOSH. Johor MACC director Azmi Alias, when contacted, confirmed the arrest, saying the suspect had been taken to court for a remand order.
On Oct 31, a Johor DOSH assistant director was also detained on suspicion of being involved in a case of demanding and receiving a bribe from the project manager.
The 37-year-old suspect was detained at a hotel in Johor Bahru at 2.40pm on that day and upon thorough investigations, the suspect was found to have demanded and received a bribe of RM30,000.
